What You Need to Know Before Choosing a Fire Alarm

Fire Alarm System for Electrical Cabinet

We need to determine the right standards for choosing fire alarm system. Moreover, fire alarms are vital equipment and are expected to work perfectly in seconds at critical times. Reliable equipment is needed for that.

Four criteria must be met in selecting fire alarm system:

1. Standardization

Standardization is needed because it concerns:

  • Quality
  • Compatibility with other equipment
  • Supporting the standard system recommended by NFPA

NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) is an association recognized by the world to maintain the installation standards and capabilities of fire alarm equipment. While the independent body recognized by the world to conduct fire alarm product testing is UL (Underwriters Laboratories).

In the history of NFPA itself, it can be seen that these two bodies have a close relationship. They will support each other in developing fire alarm standardization for the coming years. In other words, if you buy a product with UL testing standardization (proven by a certification label), it is almost certain that you will get a product that meets NFPA standards.

For Europe, there is also the LPC standard. In addition, a company that has a production system that produces quality output has ISO 9000 certification.

2. Ability to support current and future needs

A. Number and type of products

A wide range of products will ensure that you do not need to worry about further developments. Every place that needs to be protected will get the appropriate equipment. In addition, it is also necessary to see whether the company has supporting fire alarm equipment, such as equipment to detect hydrant flow or equipment combined with automatic emergency doors.

B. Technology development

To ensure that the fire alarm system you choose can be integrated with other systems (ex., security systems and building management), make sure that the product you choose keeps up with technological advancements. This is crucial, especially when coordination is required between factories or one industrial group. Additionally, the software should ideally come directly from the official manufacturer to ensure reliability and accountability. Choosing a product that adapts to technological progress also reflects the company’s long-term vision and its readiness to provide reliable after-sales service.

3. World recognition

A recognition of the quality of goods can be seen from how much the equipment is used in the world. We can also see the number of agents spread across various regions, as well as the brands that use the product.

4. After-sales services

After Sales Service is closely related to points 2 (two) and 3 (three). Companies that have a long-term vision provide a sense of security to consumers. While the number of agents and branches of the company can provide easy after-sales service, both technically and for the goods themselves.
You are advised to buy a fire alarm system from an official agent/distributor appointed by the factory. You can also check the agent/distributor certificate and manufacturing documents from the factory.
